The engine got a strip down today and whilst I was very apprehensive about being able to salvage anything from this engine, it proved to be really good underneath all the rust.

The pistons and bores were in excellent condition and the main bearnings and big end bearings had little or no wear at all. The mains are .010 undersize, so I assume it was reconditioned and then for some reason taken out and stored.

Luckily then I think that a good clean and rebuild with new ancilliaries will do the trick. It will have mostly new parts, with a new distributer (I may go electronic ignition), alternator, water pump, and inlet/exhaust valves. The head might also get a minor port/polish while I am at it.
